Well, thanks to my new job schedule, Wednesdays do not allow me enough time to record and post my vintage vinyl tracks. But do not fear! We will adapt! Instead of Vintage Vinyl Wednesday, we will now celebrate Throwback Thursday Vinyl.
Today’s track is inspired by last night’s final Jeopardy question: Of the Beatles 20 U.S. # 1 hits, this song has the shortest title
For those of you who don’t know, the answer to the question would be Help!
Sadly, I have yet to acquire the Help! album, so I do not have that song to share with you today. But, in keeping with the short title trend, today’s track is also a one word title, not a # 1, but a great track off the Rubber Soul album.
Girl was released on Rubber Soul in 1965. It was the last song recorded for that album. Lennon gives an interesting take on its meaning in a 1970 interview with Rolling Stone.
I was just talking about Christianity in that- a thing like you have to be tortured to attain heaven. I’m only saying that I was talking about “pain will lead to pleasure” in Girl and that was sort of the Catholic Christian concept- be tortured and then it will be alright, which seems to be a bit true, but not in their concept of it. But I didn’t believe in that, that you have to be tortured to attain anything, it just so happens that you were.
