I know, I know! I missed a whole week of posts AGAIN! Ugh! But seriously I know I have said this a thousand times, but work is a killer. Long days, little rest! Phew! But enough of my excuses. Tonight I have a track from one of my favorites! She is an artist that was really one of the first to get me excited about “older” music (I know that for some of you the 80’s was just yesterday, sorry!). Cyndi Lauper is an icon. Form her outfits to her antics, she defines 80’s pop.
She’s So Unusual debuted in July of 1984 with She Bop being the third single off the album. She Bop reached its peak at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was controversial with parents at the time as they were able to see past the thin veil of the lyrics, which are about masturbation and in fact inspired by a gay porn magazine. Maybe I’m the only one, but my small, adolescent brain thought it was about dancing! But, Lauper herself confirmed the rumor just this past April, when She’s So Unusual celebrated it’s 30th anniversary.
No matter it’s meaning the song, She Bop, is catchy, upbeat, and a great jam to get you in the dancing mood (and self pleasure mood too I guess?).
